Zomato Turns 16 with Classic Ad; Paytm CEO Weighs In
Celebrating its 16th anniversary with a unique full-page advertisement in a prominent Delhi NCR journal, Popular Food Delivery Platform Zomato attracted a lot of attention including that of Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma.
Featuring a big picture of Zomato’s founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, together with smaller photos of the company’s top executives, the commercial was deftly fashioned to resemble an Indian political billboard. Written in Hindi, the phrase reads, “16th janamdin par aap sabhi ko apna pyar barsane ke liye koti koti dhanyawad,” (On our 16th birthday, a great gratitude to all of you for showering us with affection).
Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma congratulated Zomato on their sixteen years of business by sharing a picture of the newspaper ad on X (previously Twitter). His message, in Hindi as well, complimented the clever ad: “On Zomato’s 16th birthday, warmest congrats to all the executive team members including chief Mr. Deepinder ji! May God provide upon us always such commendable ads.
The commercial also revealed a unique offer to mark the birthday of the app: a six-month Zomato Gold membership at just ₹30. Benefits from Zomato Gold include free delivery, up to thirty percent savings at partner restaurants, and other extras.
Usually catering to the metropolitan affluent, Zomato showed its creative and funny side in this commercial. Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma saw the advertising and visited X to express gratitude. He uploaded a picture of the advertisement and praised Zomato for sixteen years of operation, particularly noting the innovative aspect of the campaign.
Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah launched FoodieBay as Zomato in July 2008. Now active in more than 1,000 cities, it has also extended its activities to nations including New Zealand, Canada, Turkey, and Brazil.
