TCS Partners with Sydney Marathon, Eyes Abbott World Major Status
The largest marathon event in Australia, the Sydney Marathon, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) have confirmed their title relationship. With this action, TCS hopes to improve the marathon experience by utilizing its knowledge of cutting edge technologies, accessibility, sustainability, and charity effect. The Sydney Marathon’s application to join the elite Abbott World Marathon Majors, which consists of six of the most renowned marathons in the world—Tokyo, Boston presented by Bank of America, TCS London Marathon, BMW Berlin Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and TCS New York City Marathon—is also supported by this partnership.
The Sydney Marathon’s race director, Wayne Larden, stressed the value of working with TCS, pointing out that the company’s knowledge of major international races, such as the Abbott World Marathon Majors, offers priceless insights. “As we relentlessly pursue our goal of becoming the next Abbott World Marathon Major, we recognize the importance of partnering with industry leaders like TCS, who share our vision of excellence and community impact in sustainability, education, accessibility, and health,” Larden stated.
For the Sydney Marathon to be included in the Abbott World Marathon Majors in 2025, it must fulfill certain requirements for two years in a row. It is anticipated that obtaining this designation will greatly boost the marathon’s economic impact on Sydney and New South Wales. TCS Chief Marketing Officer Abhinav Kumar emphasized that the collaboration is in line with TCS’s mission to improve ecosystems and communities. “We are proud to partner with this iconic race, not only to support its rise as a major global race but to help it set a new standard in sustainability and in the way technology can enhance marathons for participants and fans alike,” Kumar said.
The Sydney Marathon was a practice run for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. It was originally staged on April 30, 2000, under the name The Host City Marathon. Since then, it has developed into a September event that is conducted annually and draws in about 40,000 runners from about 100 different countries. The marathon course, which is well-known for its picturesque route, runs by some of Sydney’s most iconic and stunning sites, such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. Since its beginning, the three-race event has raised nearly $26.5 million for philanthropic organizations. The date of this year’s marathon is September 15.
TCS is well known throughout the world for its initiatives to improve communities through the use of sports and technology. As per the 2024 Kantar BrandZ Most Valuable Global Brands report, TCS has raised its brand value to $44.79 billion, a 7 percent annual growth, and is now ranked among the world’s 50 most valuable brands. TCS’s country head for Australia and New Zealand, Vikram Singh, took delight in the organization’s ongoing support of the local community. As a provider of technology, TCS has been essential to Australia for almost 40 years. With the introduction of this new relationship with the TCS Sydney Marathon, we are happy to continue our contribution to the community,” Singh stated.
There are currently 14 international running events that TCS supports, including the Boston, London, Chicago, and New York marathons as well as races in Amsterdam, Mumbai, Singapore, and Toronto. TCS hopes to promote the Sydney Marathon’s nomination for the Abbott World Marathon Majors, which will further strengthen its commitment to promoting health, sustainability, and community impact via sports, with over 600,000 runners expected to participate in these events.
