FAQs and Important Features of the e-Pay Tax Service
For taxpayers, the e-Pay Tax service offers a simple and efficient method of managing their tax payments. The following are some common inquiries concerning the service:
Is a Challan (CRN) required in order to pay taxes?
It is true that using the e-Pay Tax service to make direct tax payments requires creating a Challan. There is a distinct Challan Reference Number (CRN) attached to each Challan.
Who is able to produce a Challan (CRN)?
Using the e-Pay Tax service, any taxpayer—including tax deductors and collectors—required to make direct tax payments can create a Challan. The e-Filing portal’s Post-Login and Pre-Login capabilities can be used for this.
Which payment methods are accessible once a Challan (CRN) has been generated?
Following the generation of a Challan, the following methods of payment are accessible:
Net Banking (with a few approved banks only)
Debit Card (a few approved banks only)
Pay at the Bank Counter: In select authorized bank branches, over-the-counter payments are accepted.
RTGS/NEFT (via any bank that offers this service)
Payment Gateway (using any bank’s UPI, Net Banking, Credit Card, and Debit Card as sub-payment mechanisms)
How can a taxpayer find out if their tax payment was accepted?
A Challan Receipt is produced once the tax payment is complete. The Challan Identification Number (CIN), BSR Code, Payment Date, and other pertinent information are included on this receipt. Under the “Payment History” tab, the CRN status will likewise change to “PAID”. The Challan Receipt is available for download and viewing by taxpayers under the Payment History section.
