TCS CEO Krithi Krithivasan Isn’t Losing Sleep Over AI Cannibalizing Revenue

NEW DELHI.The Indian IT sector has been afraid of the idea of “revenue cannibalization” for a time. This idea seems simple: if Artificial Intelligence can do something in ten minutes that a team of engineers did in ten hours then the big companies like Tata Consultancy Services would lose a lot of money. Tcs CEO Krithi Krithivasan does not think this is true. He spoke at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Said that Artificial Intelligence is not a bad thing for his business. He thinks that when Artificial Intelligence makes things more efficient it does not mean that people will lose their jobs. “There is no need to panic ” he said. “Every time something new happens there is work to do.”

The 30% Efficiency Trap

Krithi Krithivasan talked about the numbers. He said that Artificial Intelligence is already making things 20% to 30% efficient in software development and maintenance. This might seem like a thing for companies like TCS because they would not be able to bill as many hours. Krithi Krithivasan thinks that this is not the whole story. He said that big companies are not trying to spend money they are trying to do more with the money they have. Of cutting jobs they are using the extra efficiency to do things they could not do before like fixing old computer systems and making new products that use Artificial Intelligence. Krithi Krithivasan thinks that Artificial Intelligence is not taking away from the “pie” it is making the “pie” bigger.

From Billing Hours to Buying Outcomes

Krithi Krithivasan also talked about how companiesre changing the way they bill for their services. Of billing by the hour they are billing for what they achieve. This is because Artificial Intelligence is making things happen faster. The value is not in how long it takes but in what it achieves. Krithi Krithivasan said that this is a change that companies must adapt to. TCS is changing the way it bills for its services so that it can capture the value of its ideas and Artificial Intelligence not the time its employees work. This change is already. Tcs reported that it made $1.8 billion from Artificial Intelligence services in early 2026.

The “Human-Plus” Workforce

Krithi Krithivasan also talked about how TCS’s training its employees to work with Artificial Intelligence. The company has already trained over 217,000 employees in Artificial Intelligence which’s almost double the number from last year. The goal is not to make every employee an expert in Artificial Intelligence but to help them work better with Artificial Intelligence. Krithi Krithivasan calls this the “autonomy curve”. In this model Artificial Intelligence does the work and the human employee focuses on understanding the problem and finding a solution.

Infrastructure: The New Frontier

Krithi Krithivasan also talked about the reality of Artificial Intelligence. He said that for India to remain a leader in the IT sector it must become a leader in Artificial Intelligence infrastructure. He estimated that India would need least 10 gigawatts of Artificial Intelligence data center capacity by 2030. TCS is working on this. It is partnering with companies like AMD to make specialized hardware for Artificial Intelligence. This will allow TCS to offer performance than general-purpose cloud providers.

A Civilizational Shift

The main message from the summit was that Artificial Intelligence is not a new technology it is a big change in the way we live and work. Krithi Krithivasan thinks that this change is not a threat but an opportunity. He compared it to the days of the internet. As the session ended people were thinking about what this means for the future. If the leader of Indias IT company is betting on Artificial Intelligence then maybe the idea that Artificial Intelligence will destroy jobs is not true. For TCS the goal is not just to maintain systems but to create the intelligence that will run the economy for the next fifty years. TCS and Artificial Intelligence are working together to make this happen. Artificial Intelligence is a part of TCSs plan, for the future.
